Silent and resilient linear and plain bearings in gynaecological chair

Plastic bearings enable durable and maintenance-free construction of the examination chair

This gynaecological chair made by the company BORCAD not only impresses with its design. The ergonomic shape of the upholstery gives the patient a comfortable feeling just as much as the chair's gentle swivelling and tilting movements. These are made possible by iglidur plain bearings, which are totally lubrication-free and therefore ideal for use in medical applications. Compared to metal bearings, they also generate far less noise. The height of the chair is adjusted using a drylin linear guide, which is very resilient.

Profile

  • What was needed: drylin W linear bearing technology, iglidur plain bearing technology
  • Requirements: The bearing technology must be 100% lubrication and maintenance-free. The chair must also be silent over its entire service life. Due to the very frequent disinfection and cleaning, it was also necessary to find a solution that offered long-term chemical resistance.
  • Industry: medical equipment
  • Success for the customer: The advantages of the system are its complete freedom from lubrication and maintenance, good chemical resistance, high load capacity, low weight and small dimensions. In addition, polymer plain bearings are much quieter than metal bearings.

Problem

This gynaecological chair has been given a modern and attractive design that should still look elegant even after several years of use. The lines of the chair were also deliberately chosen to rule out possible injuries to the doctor or a patient being examined. The ergonomic shapes of the upholstery also have a positive effect on the patient's comfortable positioning and are intended to make the visit to the doctor as relaxed as possible.
Bearing technology that is 100% lubrication and maintenance-free must be used for the various linear and rotational movements of the gynaecological chair. The chair must also be silent over its entire service life. Due to the very frequent disinfection and cleaning, it was also necessary to find a solution that offered long-term chemical resistance.

Solution

Today, the manufacturer relies on polymer plain bearing technology for all rotating and swivelling movements made by the gynaecological chair. The smooth rotating and swivelling movements of the chair are made possible by iglidur plain bearings, which are totally lubrication-free and therefore ideal for use in medical applications. Compared to metal bearings, they also generate far less noise. The customer also relies on linear bearings from the drylin product range. The main movement of the chair for travelling vertically is achieved via drylin W linear guides, consisting of profile rails and profile carriages, which are located in a telescopic guide built in-house. The advantages of the system are its complete freedom from lubrication and maintenance, good chemical resistance, resistance to high loads, low weight and small dimensions.
